Sahm spent four years bringing his first novel
The
Art of Getting Bent to life. He began brainstorming in late 2000
during his daily train commute and lunch hour. Sahm then composed
an outline over a week in Sea Isle City, NJ in May 2001.
The original concept for this project was an illustrated graphic novel mixed with poetry. By the time the final outline was composed over a week at Montauk, NY in May 2002, it was strictly prose.
Principal writing took place in various coffeehouses throughout Midtown Manhattan, and the first draft was completed on March 3, 2003. The sixth and final draft was completed on November 9, 2004, and published in January 2005.
The Art of Getting Bent is available at Amazon.com. Sahm is currently at work on his second novel, an unrelated work, that centers on America's dependence on handheld devices.
